She was big – it was the diamonds that got smaller

RIP Elizabeth Taylor.

You may remember her looking like this:

Or this:

Which of course she did quite a bit in her later days. She hurt her back falling off a horse when filming the incredible National Velvet (great movie – if you like horses, watch it) and had health problems for the rest of her life. However, in her early days she often looked like this:

Or this.

She was curvy and gorgeous (like Jenny) and made the most of it. She was the epitome of glamour, married eight times, was painted by Andy Warhol, inspired Richard Burton to buy her incredible diamonds and wore them shamelessly.

I love her fashion sense because even though it was often weird, it was brave and unique. She and Lady Gaga could have had many enjoyable head-dress conversations. (And possibly did.)

In addition, she was a very good actress. You don’t get two Oscars by accident. And she was a tireless fundraiser for AIDS. She even gave away the historic diamond engagement ring Richard Burton gave her to raise money for the cause.

I think she will rest in peace. She led a full and generous life. Hollywood just got a tiny bit smaller.
